Galatians 5;22 The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Fruit of LOVE

Love is the most misused and misunderstood word in all cultures.

All people have an element of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Those born of the Spirit will have the fruit of the Holy Spirit.   John 3;5,6

Love is the greatest of fruit and should be desired.  1 Corinthians 13; 4-7

There are 3 common Greek words in the New Testament.

Fruit of JOY

Joy is not an emotion.

Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit

Happiness is an emotion and dependent on circumstances.

Joy is independent of circumstances.

Through baptism of The Holy Spirit, you can have the fruit of the Holy Spirit

Joy is manifest in 3 ways:

  1. through relationships
  2. through celebrations
  3. through creation – all creation is waiting in expectation.

Joy is expressed in 3 ways:

Joy is a fruit, a manifestation / an expression of the Holy Spirit in your life.

Fruit of PEACE

Peace is for every believer, 24/7

Kingdom of God is righteousness, PEACE and joy, 24/7 in your life.

God of Peace will crush satan under your feet.  Rom. 16;20

Holy Spirit descended like a dove.  Mark 1;10

Peace that passes all understanding      Phil. 4; 7

Fruit of  PATIENCE

Patience is: steadfastness in obedience to God, despite pressure to deny Him.

Patience is the ability to withhold what you want, not just among other people, but yourself.

Devil does not want you to have patience

Devil wants you to give-up

The test of patience comes when our rights are violated.

When everything is going our way, patience is easy to demonstrate.

We are all born in sin.

Apostle John was changed from the son of thunder to the apostle of love.

Love is patient         1 Cor. 13:4

Greek Makrothmia; Capacity for self-control despite circumstances.

Gal. 5:22 Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control;

Hebrews 12;1          run with patience the race that is set before us”

Run;               Active –

Patience;       Endurance –

Patience is developed in adversity          James 1;1-3             ‘Count it all joy when you go through trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.’

Count is all joy, is most crucial to developing patience. Lets worship The Lord

(The fruit of GOODNESS and KINDNESS are from the Holy Spirit – it is not your fruit. Without the Holy Spirit in your life you cannot have the fruit of goodness and kindness. Both the fruit of goodness and kindness are sometimes used interchangeably.)

Fruit of GOODNESS:

the fruit of Gooodness is beautiful, attractive, useful, profitable, desirable and morally right

Goodness is an attribute of God.

Mk 10: 18       Only God is good

Luke 6:45      People can be good to one another

Matt 5;16        All believers must do good to glorify God

John 10:11    Jesus says I am the good shepherd

James 1;17 Every good and perfect gift is from God

Gal. 6;9,10    Let us not become weary in doing good

Eph. 2;10       Good works have been prepared for us

Col. 1;10        be fruitful in every good work

James 4;17 If you do not do good then you sin

1 Peter 2;12 Be an example of Goodness

3 John 11      Imitate what is good from God

To show kindness is to act in a loyal, loving way

Aramaic         hesed            faithfulness to a relationship

Greek             Christos        moral kindness

God’s kindness:

Rom 2:4        leads us to repentance

Rom 11:22    grafts us into the olive tree.

Eph 2:7          is the incomparable riches of his grace

Tit 3:4             saves us.

Col 3: 12        Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness. “PUT IT ON!”

2 Cor. 6:6      Commend yourself in every way in kindness.

Eph 4:32        Be kind

2 Tim 2:24     You must be kind to everyone.

The word self-control in the Greek is ἐγκράτεια, ας, ἡ   and the phonetic spelling is  ENG-KRAT-I-AH

Self-control is the fruit that will enable you to master your desires and passions, especially your sensual appetites.

Acts 24:25     Self Control is enkrateaia and this is to have power.

Mt 23:25       No self-control is akrasia and no self-control renders one to be powerless and overwhelmed by passions.

Self-control brings honor to yourself and Glory to God.

No self-control brings shame and dishonor to yourselves and The Lord.

Prov. 25;28   No self-control is like a city broken into left with no walls.

Examples of dishonor:

  1. Esau Gen 25:29-34 – Physical appetite – food and drink
  2. Balaam Num 22 -24 – Egotistical appetite – pride and status
  3. Samson Judges 16 – Sexual appetite – lust and greed

2 Tim. 3: 10,11 – Paul to Timothy, follow my example of self-control.

1 Cor. 9:24-27          Paul says, run the race & exercise great self-control.

2 Tim. 4:7     I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race!

How to develop Self-Control

  1. Focus
  2. Run the race with self control
  3. Fight the good fight
  4. Turn away from the temptation.
  5. Get support.

Meekness and gentleness is power under control.

This is not the same as weakness.

Meekness is a submitted attitude of gratitude.

Self-centeredness produces anger and violence.

Meekness produces gentleness.

Num. 12:3     Moses most meek man on the earth.

Matt. 11;29    Jesus showed meekness in complete submission.

Phil 2:5-11    He became nothing, that the Father might be all.

John 3;30      He must become greater; I must become less.

Matt 5:5          Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth.

Matt 11:29     Take my yoke, and learn, I am gentle and humble in heart

Matt 18:3        Unless become like little children.

Eph 4:2          Always be meek and gentle.

How do we develop this fruit in our lives?

  1. Matt 11:29 Be yoked with Christ.
  2. Phil 2:6-8 Have the same attitude as Jesus.
  3. Lk 14:7-11 Humble yourself and you will be exalted.
  4. Col 3:12 Clothe yourself with meekness and gentleness.
  5. John 13:8 Become totally secure in our God.

I pray The Lord anoint you with His Holy Spirit and you yield to the weight of His Glory.

I pray The Lord baptize you again in His Holy Spirit and as you abide in His presence you will see the FRUIT of THE HOLY SPIRIT develop in your life.

You are like a planted by the River and your leaves will be green all year and you will produce a harvest in every season.
